BOM AGCD Climate Data

  • en

This dataset contains the Bureau of Meteorology's Australian Gridded Climate Data (AGCD) dataset, which contains climate data across variables including precipitation, maximum and minimum temperature, derived mean temperature, and vapour pressure. Data from 2000 to 2024 is sourced from the AGCD v1.0.3 historical archive on NCI THREDDS. Data from 2025 onwards is sourced from BOM's Opendap server and updated monthly as new daily grids become available. Daily NetCDF grids at 0.05° resolution are temporally resampled to daily, monthly, and yearly values (sum for precipitation, mean for all other variables), then spatially aggregated to ABS geographic boundaries using zonal statistics (mean). The dataset comprises two products. Grids: annual Cloud Optimised GeoTIFF (COG) stacks with one band per day, one file per variable and year. Tables: long-format Parquet with columns region (ABS boundary code), date (period start) and obs_value, hive-partitioned by variable (precip, tmax, tmin, tmean, vapourpres_h09, vapourpres_h15), statistic (total for precipitation, mean otherwise), region_type (sa1, sa2, sa3, sa4, gcc, lga), edition (the boundary code set, asgs2021 or lga2021), period (P1D, P1M, P1Y) and year. Geometries are not included in the tables, but can be obtained from the corresponding ASGS boundary files.
