QUT-derived Estimated Resident Population
This dataset contains annual and monthly estimated resident population (ERP) by sex and five-year age group for Statistical Area Levels 2, 3 and 4, Greater Capital City Statistical Areas and Local Government Areas, derived from ABS ERP using the method published by Singh, Cortes-Ramirez and Cramb at QUT. Published ABS estimates are retained unchanged. Years 1995 to 2000 are backcast from 2001 to 2002 growth and constrained to official state totals for each sex and age group. Monthly values are interpolated from the annual series with a July-anchored PCHIP curve. SA3, SA4 and GCC values are summed from SA2. The ASGS outputs cover 1995 to 2025 on the 2021 ASGS boundaries. The LGA output covers 1995 to 2021 on the 2021 LGA boundaries, because later releases use newer LGA boundaries. Each sex and age category is modelled separately, so in backcast years the age groups do not sum exactly to the all-ages total, and males and females do not sum exactly to persons. Tables are long-format Parquet with columns region (ABS boundary code), date (the 30 June reference date for annual rows, the month start for monthly rows), obs_value, sex (male, female, persons), age_group (00-04 to 80-84, 85+, all), estimate_status and method, hive-partitioned by variable (population), region_type (sa2, sa3, sa4, gcc, lga), edition (the boundary code set, asgs2021 or lga2021), period (P1Y, P1M) and year. Geometries are not included, but can be obtained from the corresponding ASGS boundary files.
